Logistic units, such as pallets, are identified with a logistics label containing an GS1-128 barcode.
Through the use of Application Identifiers (AI), this barcode can be used to encode the Serial Shipping Container Code (SSCC) which uniquely identifies each logistic unit.
Depending on whether the shipper contains items of the same type or is mixed, Application Identifiers can also be used able to provide include additional barcoded information about the contents, such as the GTIN, batch numbers and best before dates.
