GS1-128 sizing

Size may also vary when extra information such as best before date, measurements for variable measure products and batch/serial numbers are included.

When used in general distribution, the maximum width for the X-dimension (that is, the width of the narrowest bar or space) is 1.016 mm and the minimum width is 0.495 mm

When you’re printing a GS1-128 barcode, make sure that you choose an X-dimension that can be reproduced clearly on printing equipment.

For GS1-128, a smaller X-Dimension may be used if there is absolutely no possibility of printing the minimum size barcode because the trade item is physically too small. Though the X-Dimension should never be less than 0.250 millimetres

The minimum symbol height for general distribution scanning is always 31.75 millimetres. The minimum symbol height dimensions relate to the bar heights only (do not include HRI - human readable interpretation text).

Verifiers should still be used to check that the barcode meets the required grade.

Check GS1 General Specifications 12.3.2 Symbol specification table 2 - Trade items scanned in general distribution only for further details.
