Internal communications and engagement manager

Accountabilities:

As internal communications lead, you will play a crucial role in fostering effective communication and engagement across directorates and GS1 UK as a whole. You will business partner the CEO, collaborate closely with HR, directors, heads of team, people managers and colleagues to drive culture change across the organisation. Our transformation is centred around great performance and rooted in our new performance and development framework. You will implement and continuously develop inspiring, creative internal communication and engagement opportunities that drive culture change, behaviour, keep colleagues involved and better informed and that are connected to our core values and guiding principles.

Key responsibilities:

Core
  • Communications planning development: implement an internal communications plan and framework
  • CEO business partnering: act as the CEO’s internal communications business partner, supporting with leadership visibility, key messaging, stakeholder events and presentations
  • Directorate business partnering: partner with the executive leadership team to develop internal communications that support GS1 UK’s strategy, enhance employee engagement and reflect our values
  • HR engagement lead: Work with our HR team to develop and deliver the employee engagement strategy and support the organisation with engagement initiatives. As part of this, bring to life the new focus on great performance and ensure continuous colleague engagement in the new performance and development framework
  • Channel management: manage current internal communications channels and ensure they are fit for purpose and evolve in line with metrics and feedback
  • Event management: lead on organisational away-days, social events and town halls. Including event development, facilitation, management and communications
  • Content creation: a natural storyteller able to manage, edit and create engaging and compelling content for internal communications channels, including intranet articles, email announcements, organisational events and presentations. Manage an organisational editorial calendar and an editorial board
  • Message development: develop key messages and talking points to ensure consistency across directorates, teams and levels of the organisation
  • Metrics and analytics: monitor and analyse the effectiveness of internal communications initiatives, using metrics and feedback to inform and drive decision making, and continually improve strategies and tactics. This includes managing a yearly people engagement survey and associated pulse surveys

Essential skills and experience
  • A track record of developing and executing successful internal communications engagement strategies and plans
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong experience in business partnering leaders and leadership teams
  • Strong understanding of change management principles and their integration with communications strategies
  • The skills to project manage communications campaigns and work at both strategic and tactical levels
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and be able to foster confidence rooted in accountability
  • Exceptional interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
  • Broad knowledge of best practices in internal communications, including change management, employee engagement and channel management
  • Hands on experience of communication tools and platforms, including print, digital and face-to-face communication
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to craft clear, concise, and engaging communications for a diverse audience
  • A track-record of supporting business leaders to identify, develop and deploy engagement and communication campaigns
  • Proven track record of influencing senior stakeholders
  • An understanding of how data can be used to support decision making
  • High level of professionalism, discretion and integrity
